A paper greenhouse that breathes out Fragonard's scent.
01 The idea
Perfume is invisible. So I built a place that shows how it feels.
A small paper greenhouse, overgrown with roses, lilacs, jasmine and everything that makes Fragonard's perfume smell the way it does. When the doors swing open, the greenhouse exhales: a soft cloud of scent rolls out, carrying petals and butterflies into the world.
La serre qui respire.
The greenhouse that breathes.
02 Why paper
Fragonard is a house of craft, so the render had to feel made by hand.
Fragonard works with painters, collage makers and other artists. Instead of a smooth 3D render, the greenhouse is built entirely from paper: layered, folded and slightly imperfect, like their printed labels, boxes and Provençal prints. Soft botanical colours, with Fragonard's yellow as the accent; slate and charcoal are kept for the ironwork. The palette comes from Fragonard's existing colours.
03 Styleboard
Seven references that set the rules for the paper world.
Light through paper
Warm light glowing behind paper: the reference for mist building up inside the glass.
Paperlike textures
Cut layers with visible fibres, soft shadows and uneven edges.
Exploding florals
Dense, overgrown blooms with butterflies and bees.
Fragile paper
A cut-paper lattice for the greenhouse frame and its delicate glass.
Folded details
Wisteria and petals made from folded, layered paper.
Glass and reflections
The domed structure and its panes (shape only, not colour).
Paper clouds
The perfume itself: soft layered puffs in blush, cream and lavender.
04 Made to move
A loop, not a still: the scene keeps breathing.
Always on
The flag flutters, leaves sway softly, insects drift by.
The breath
The doors open and a cloud of scent rolls out.
Release
Petals and butterflies float away into the page.
Reset
The doors close and the loop starts again.
05 Process
From a sketch to a living homepage hero.
01Sketch, references, styleboard
The concept, Fragonard's flowers, paper greenhouses and the paper rules.
02Blockout
The scene in simple shapes to find scale and placement.
03Modelling
Trees, stepping stones and the greenhouse lattice take shape.
04Colour & light
Fragonard's palette and soft lights placed in the scene.
05Inside the greenhouse
Layered paper roses, wisteria and leaves behind the glass.
- 06
Render tests
Testing noise, light and the bottle before the final render.
07Beauty render
The final look, with the L'air de Grasse bottle in front.
06 Outcome
Spring in Grasse: “La fleur de l'année”.
The greenhouse became the moving hero of a seasonal homepage concept for Fragonard, on desktop and phone.
